Best desk mats that hide cables

Orbitkey pins one charger on a magnetic toolbar. Function101 parks two silicone blocks on a metal-infused pad. Corsair moves two USB plugs to the back edge. If I only needed the charger to stay put, I'd start with Orbitkey. A deep PU blotter can hide front-edge clips under an inch of overhang, but the strip under the desk is still a tray job.

Holder, hub, or coverage

Holders clip a cable to the mat so the charger does not yank onto the floor when you stand. Orbitkey uses a magnetic slider. Function101 uses two blocks you can also weight on the desk edge. Coverage is different. A 24-inch-deep mat can hang a little over the front and hide adhesive clips. Felt drapes enough to cover a clip line along the back.

Sit-stand slack and the USB-C lead

If the desk rises, leave slack in every cable that goes to the wall or the PC. A short USB-C lead into a Corsair hub will tug when you stand. Edge clips still do the holding. Clean the edge before the clip goes on. The mat is the curtain.

What actually changes between these

If I were pinning one charger, I'd point to Orbitkey. Function101 is two blocks on a narrower PU pad. Corsair is a 48 by 24 cloth hub that needs a USB-C cable. Aothia 47 by 24 is coverage only. ANUBISGX felt covers clips and soaks spills.

5 picks with live Amazon ratings

1 Start here Pinning one charger on the mat

Orbitkey Desk Mat (Large)

4.1 (231 Amazon ratings, as of 2026-09-05)

Orbitkey is built around a toolbar. The magnetic holder slides so a laptop charger stays on the desk instead of yanking onto the floor. That is the cable job.

Under the top layer is a pocket for loose paper. Vegan leather wipes. The felt base grips. Large is about 35 by 17 inches, not a 48-inch cover.

I'd buy this if one charger is the job. One holder is not a cable tray. HDMI and a power strip still need clips or an under-desk basket.

Good for

  • Magnetic holder keeps a charger on the desk
  • Paper hideaway under the top layer
  • Wipe-clean vegan leather

Skip if

  • One cable at a time, not a brick farm
  • Not a full-desk 48-inch mat
2 Parking two cables on the mat

Function101 Desk Mat Pro (31 x 16)

4.5 (17 Amazon ratings, as of 2026-09-05)

Function101 puts two silicone blocks on a 31 by 16 inch PU pad. The pad is metal-infused, so the blocks stick anywhere on it. You can also weight them on the desk edge off the pad.

Two cables is the limit that matters. Laptop charger and a phone lead. Not a dock farm. The PU top wipes.

Only 17 ratings as of 2026-09-05. That is too thin to lean on. I don't think this is the first buy unless you want two blocks and you can live with a tiny sample. The blocks are also extra parts to lose.

Good for

  • Two magnetic blocks, not one slider
  • Blocks can sit on the desk edge
  • Wipe-clean PU

Skip if

  • Blocks are extra parts to lose
  • 31 inches is narrower than a 48-inch blotter
3 Putting USB ports on the desk instead of behind the PC

Corsair MM700 RGB 3XL (48 x 24)

4.4 (5,201 Amazon ratings, as of 2026-09-05)

The MM700's cable trick is a hub, not a clip. Two USB ports sit on the 48 by 24 inch cloth. Plug a mouse or headset there. The run to the PC is one USB-C cable to the mat.

That hides dongles you used to leave on the floor. It does not hide the wall cord or a power strip. Cloth still stains.

I'd take this if you want those two USB plugs on the pad. If the desk rises, leave slack in the USB-C lead. A short cable will tug when you stand.

Good for

  • Two USB ports at the back of the mat
  • 48 by 24 inches covers edge clips if you overhang a little
  • One cable back to the PC

Skip if

  • Hub needs a USB-C cable
  • Cloth, not a wipe-clean blotter
4 Hiding front-edge clips under a deep blotter

Aothia PU desk pad (47.2 x 23.6)

4.6 (79,091 Amazon ratings, as of 2026-09-05)

This Aothia is 47.2 by 23.6 inches. Hang the front inch over the desktop edge and the plastic clips sit under the PU. That is how a mat hides cables without a magnet.

No holder. Cords still need clips or a tray. The blotter only covers the plastic.

I would not treat a deeper sheet as a cable manager. Suede back. Wipe the top. If you need the charger to stay on the surface, add Orbitkey or Function101.

Good for

  • 24-inch depth can cover front-edge clips
  • Wipe-clean PU
  • Wide enough for a full keyboard

Skip if

  • No cable clip built in
  • Overhang can bother your knees if you overdo it
5 Covering back-edge clips on a mid-size desk

ANUBISGX felt desk pad (36 x 18)

4.7 (45 Amazon ratings, as of 2026-09-05)

Felt drapes more than stiff PU. An 18-inch-deep pad can sit over clips along the back edge so you see wool, not plastic. Stitched edge. Rubberized back. 36 by 18 inches.

Felt soaks. This is the wrong pick if you eat at the desk. I'd take it if the only mess is clips and a hard desktop.

Only 45 ratings as of 2026-09-05. Treat that as a small sample.

Good for

  • Felt covers clips without a hard edge
  • Stitched XL with an anti-slip base
  • 36 by 18 inches on a mid-size desk

Skip if

  • Absorbs spills
  • No magnetic holder or USB hub

FAQ

Can a desk mat replace under-desk cable clips?

A mat can hide clips or hold one charger. The clip still holds anything heavy. I'd use both if you want the plastic out of sight.

Which desk mat keeps a charger on a standing desk?

Orbitkey or Function101. Leave slack in every cable that goes to the wall or the PC. A deep Aothia can hide front-edge clips. It will not manage the strip under the desk.

Do I still need an under-desk tray?

Yes if you have a power strip or brick adapters. Trays are in the cable-management collection at /picks/cable-management/.

How do I hide front-edge clips with a mat?

Use a deep PU blotter (about 24 inches) and hang the front inch over the edge so the plastic sits under the mat. Clean the edge before the clip goes on. Overhang that is too deep hits your knees.

Holder mat or USB-hub mat?

Orbitkey or Function101 pin a charger on the surface. Corsair MM700 moves two USB plugs to the back of the pad. The hub needs a USB-C cable to the PC.
